How to Correct Identity Loss: 2 Tips for Clarity
My identity loss happened a little bit at a time, tangled in daily duties and must-dos, until I looked in the mirror and cried.
“I don’t even know who I am.”
It wasn’t the first time I told that to the man in the mirror.

. . .
I lost me.
I became a checklist of titles, jobs, and skills. I felt more like a resume than a good and faithful steward.
None of what I was doing was bad, but the man in the mirror challenged me to look deeper. “Is this all you are called to be?”
Do you ever feel like you’ve gotten lost in a litany of labels and missed your purpose design?
I felt my identity loss, but I didn’t know how to claw my way back.
Introspection helped me recognize how some of those labels were actually standing in the way of my God design.
I needed to get to a place of clarity so I could see all He called me to be. But my experience had taught me that it was complicated, and difficult, and sometimes impossible to understand what God wanted for my life.
As I started digging into God’s Word, I realized THEY had been lying to me all along.
It Is NOT a Secret

God’s will for my life is not a secret.
It’s not complicated.
It’s not even all that challenging to understand . . . once I determined to dig into His Word.
It turns out that it all starts with a relationship with Him. Once that is established and growing, the rest begins to work itself out. Identity loss happens when I unalign with that simplicity.
Step One to Knowing Your Purpose
Know God. And you come to know God through His Word – through consistent and persistent investment in reading His Word for yourself.
“But it has to be more complicated than that.” Believe me, you are not the first person to make that argument. The man in the mirror practically yelled at me.
But it is that simple because it’s not a system or a process. It is a relationship.
Once I started building that foundational relationship, I began to recognize that I’m not like everyone else.
Step Two to Knowing Your Purpose
Know YOU. Not the you that you have been told you are supposed to be. Not even the you that you trained to be in school. Not even the you that comes with all the titles and labels. This you is the one crafted in your mother’s womb – before the stuff of the world could cover up your heartseed and smother your possibilities.
“But HOW do I get to know ME?”
Well, that’s the secret a man introduced me to a while back, and I’m only now truly applying it to my life.
He asked me:
Do you enjoy your life? No matter what the answer, follow up with WHY? And keep following up with WHY until you get to the heartseed of you.
You Can If You Will
It’s not a secret.
It’s not even a challenge.
It’s a choice for relationship.
IF you will, then you can unlock and live purpose.
It’s a discovery process that starts in a relationship with God and leads to a heart aligned with His design.
Are you willing to build the relationship and dig down to that point of discovery?
When you find yourself staring at the mirror wondering who you are, or tangled in identity loss that hinders your ability to breathe, go back to the basics.
