Little Bits Add Up to Big Things
The little bits will add up to big possibilities when you find creative and consistent ways to utilize your little bits.
A little bit goes a long way when it is piled up with a little bit more. If I get so tangled in the things I haven’t done then I’ll be too distracted to see the things I have done. When I can’t see the progress then I get weighed down with the delusion that nothing is getting done. By focusing on a little bit, I can see that things are beginning to happen.
How to Focus on the Little Bits
- Understand your path is unique
- Settle on your way
- See how you can get it done
- Do what you, where you are, with what you have
A shift in focus will allow you to build your BIG DREAMS. The little bits allow you to create a life that is beyond the ordinary and expect. They feed your courage to challenge the system and dare to be different.
You are designed to live an extraordinary and unique life. Getting there is going to require taking one step at a time. Once you start breaking the journey down so that you only have to accomplish one step then suddenly what seemed impossible becomes possible all because you found your little bits.
More Little Bits
The world is determined to get you to focus on what you can’t do. When you are focused on what you can’t do then you don’t do what you are supposed to do. When you don’t do what you are supposed to do then discouragement sets in. Instead of moving forward, you are stuck spinning your wheels in the sand.
Little bits make it possible to get out of that rut. Just a little is all that’s required to move from stuck. Once you are unstuck, anything is possible.
Understand the power of radical little bits
I embrace the reality that I’m not normal – especially if you hold my journey up to the world. The world and society will demand conformity, but we are called to be peculiar and to transform beyond the limitations of the world.
Jesus was called a radical. Paul was called a radical. Anytime you step outside the status quo, you make heads turn (and not always in a good way). Never fear . . . or maybe fear not . . . the world cannot and will not comprehend God’s will or unique design.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Living radical requires taking purposeful and intentional action. It is the path to living your unique design. And you are the only one that can determine it and the only one that can walk it out.
Settle on your way to get there
We all need to get organized – and organized in a way that works for our journey. My husband and I are very different organizers. He’ll tell you I do it wrong, but he’ll also be the first to ask me to find things for him. But if I want things “ordered,” then he’s the go-to fellow for that.
Organization is important. The world is full of order and was created in order.
A friend of mine shared her “Bullet Journal” with me and I was enamored. It seemed like an easy way to organize things in a way that fit my flexible schedule. After about three weeks, I realized that I was spending more time building my bullet journal than I was using my journal. Although it worked great for her, it wasn’t the right planner for me.
I turned to timers. Digital timers were hung all around my house – set at 15 or 20 minutes. I began using those timers to help me harness the little bits of time I had been wasting waiting to do the big things.
You have to find your way to organize your little bits so that you will USE your little bits to build so much more.
Know where and why
It’s been said that when you fail to plan then you plan to fail. Now, there is a time and place for spontaneity, but even the spontaneous endeavor has some planning involved.
Where there is a will, there is a way!
Many years ago, I was helping a friend move from a live-in childcare job back to her parents. We had all her clothes loaded in the backseat and we had just cashed her last check. We stopped to fill my car with gas and the people next to us at the tank invited us to go down to Florida with them. “Why not?” She declared. “We have clothes. Money is not a problem. And you have a couple of free days before you have to be back at work.”
So we went. Granted, it wasn’t much of a plan, but there was a plan. When it comes to investing in the little bits, having a plan will allow you to make more of it.
My digital timers have come into play for my “make it happen” plan. Try as I might, I couldn’t get big chunks of time to work out for me. Inevitably, someone would ask me to do something right in the middle of trying to tackle one of the big chunks.
I broke my chores and tasks down into bite–sized little bits – each little bit only requiring about a quarter of an hour. I also broke down each hour down into quarters and I used each quarter individually.. Sometimes I use several portions all at the same time. But when I have a portion left over, I use that time to tackle one of the bite-sized little bits of my chore and task chart.
You have little bits of time all day long. When you put those little bits of time to work, you just might be surprised at how much more you accomplish in your daily 24 hours.
Just do it
It won’t be done for you. Reaching your goal and building your possibilities is all you. The only way to get there is to take a step. One step is all that’s needed because you can only get there one step at a time.
Step by doing something because doing something starts the movement. If you are trying to push a car (or to get your dreams rolling), you need momentum to get started. That one step is the momentum that gets something started.
Step by doing one more thing because one more now means one less thing down the road. If you wash that one dish when you take it in the kitchen instead of sticking it in the sink then there will be one less dish to wash when you tackle the daily chore of cleaning the kitchen. It not only gets the dish out of the way but it allows for more energy for facing other things.
Step by doing where you are because you can’t get to where you want to be from anywhere else. I can’t wait until I get there because I can’t get there without moving.. Stepping now is the fastest way to get me there (and so much more will be accomplished along the way).
Step by doing what you can because all you have is all you have and if you wait until later to have more then you will miss your now. All you can do is all you can do if you are truly doing all you can do. And all you can do involves what you have around you right now. Doing all you can will make space for doing more and having more – one little bit at a time.
Wrapping Up the Little Bits
It only takes a little bit. One little bit stacked up on one little bit more begins to build up big possibilities, but it happens one little bit at a time.
You have it in you to build BIG DREAMS but the choice is yours.
- Understand the power of radical little bits.
- Settle on your way to get there
- Know where and why
- Just do it
The choice is yours. Only you can take the step. What little bit will you invest right now?
